Health as a Key to Happiness
One of the major components of happiness and joy is health. Each person has their own beliefs about what is considered healthy. A common wish is to be healthy—not only to live many years, but also to feel good in the present.
We can observe that people who eat healthily (according to what is generally believed to be healthy) do not always live longer, and some people who eat unhealthily still live many years. We can also observe that people who care about their health and take actions to stay healthy generally feel good and happy in the present.
Those people will generally try to eat more natural food, exercise regularly, and get good sleep at night.
There is a saying that we live longer thanks to modern healthcare. But others argue that it is actually due to improved hygiene—made possible by access to running water and sanitation for all—rather than modern healthcare itself. They also claim that modern healthcare often keeps people alive, but typically in a chronically sick state.
Therefore, we can conclude that a healthy life that brings happiness is primarily for the present. The idea that health will guarantee a long life expectancy is not a promise.
Basic Principles of Good Health
There are a few basic principles that are generally accepted as essential for good health: eating natural foods, getting quality sleep, engaging in regular exercise, and maintaining a happy life.
My knowledge about health comes from alternative medicine practices, such as the teachings of Herbert M. Shelton and other doctors who are generally not supported by the mainstream medical system.
Natural Health Principles
The principles are as follows:
- The body has the ability to heal itself.
- The most effective way to support healing is through water fasting.
- Illness occurs when the body accumulates more toxins than it can eliminate.
- Toxins enter the body through food, skin contact, breathing, supplements, and medication.
- Germs do not cause illness; rather, they appear in already sick areas to help the healing process.
- The body never attacks itself.
- To allow the digestive system to properly digest and eliminate toxins, one must eat less than the stomach’s full capacity.
- Long breaks between meals are necessary to give the digestive system enough time to process the food.
- Almost all food today contains some level of toxins. One should minimize the intake of these toxins by eating food that is as natural as possible and, if needed, using only natural creams on the body.
- Spend some time under the sun, without sunscreen, without burning the skin.
- Engage in some form of exercise or sport.
- Avoid wearing sunglasses; the sun rays are healthy for your eyes. Do research on Sun Gazing.
- If one of the ingredients is something your grandmother wouldn’t have used in cooking, or if the name of the ingredient is unfamiliar or unclear, do not consume it.
- Joy and happiness have a positive impact on the body. If you experience sadness or fear at any level, seek ways to cultivate happiness, joy, and serenity in your life.
Primary and Secondary Causes of Disease
There is a primary cause of disease and a secondary cause of disease.
Secondary Cause of Disease
These are external factors such as chemicals, toxins, and pollutants found in food, the air we breathe, and materials that come into contact with the body.
Primary Cause of Disease
This refers to the damaged or diseased cells themselves — the actual malfunction or breakdown within the body that causes harm.
Importantly, the secondary cause can lead to the primary cause: exposure to toxins can ultimately damage cells and trigger disease.
Most of us are exposed to toxins in one way or another. Disease develops when the body fails to effectively remove these toxins.
One person may eat processed, toxin-laden food but remain healthy because their body successfully eliminates the harmful substances.
Another person, however, may struggle to eliminate toxins due to factors such as excessive toxin exposure, aging, or emotional states like fear and sadness, which can sometimes weaken the body and lead to toxin buildup.
As we age, it becomes even more important to reduce toxin intake and support the body’s natural cleansing processes.
If an individual maintains good health and well-being while eating any type of food without concern for whether it is healthy or not—good for him, or lucky him.
However, when signs of illness or discomfort arise, it is wise to reduce the intake of toxins and support the body’s natural detoxification processes.
One of the most effective methods for promoting bodily cleansing is fasting — which may take the form of water fasting, juice fasting, or a fruit-only diet.
Such practices allow the body to conserve energy and redirect it toward self-repair and healing.
Always consult with a qualified healthcare professional before undertaking any long-term dietary changes or engaging in water fasting.
